Writers’ groups

I don’t like writers’ groups.

I reject the notion that it takes more than one person to write a book.

I object to the idea of critique. I object to the idea of feedback. I object to the idea of a workshop.

Whose book is it?

Some years ago there used to be amateur writers. Their thing used to be getting their names in print. They used to enter competitions and write letters to the editor.

They have lost their adjectives now. They have lost their inhibitions as well. Writing has become a mass participation social activity. Everybody knows what to do.

I can’t think it does any harm. It offends me.
