I don’t like the idea of literature. It took me a long time to realise what a dangerous concept it is.

Originally literature was quite a simple idea. It meant everything written, particularly everything in Latin. Then it got more complicated.  A principle of selection got in. Possibly with the printing press.

Literature was polite. It was suitable for young ladies in academies. They had to be protected. Then literature became serious. It was for students in universities. The professors took over.

Literature was elitist. Literature was in refined language. Literature was about words.

The imagination is not about words. The imagination, as the name implies, is about images.

Imagination and literature are not the same thing. The professors don’t know that.
